Next Edition: Docupodium: #29

Date: 30 November 2017

Time: 20:30 - 22:00

Location: Cinetol, Tolstraat 182, Amsterdam

Description:

Dear documentary lovers,

The weather is hateful and cold, as we all miserably expected November to be. Time to warm up with some heartwarming films! This time we will be presenting beautiful pieces of celluloid by Tessa Louise Pope and Eva Nijsten.

Tessa has grown up in the surroundings of her mother, brother, half-sister and stepfather. While her real father (also a filmmaker) lives in the same city as she does, he was never around that much to be a real father. In "The Origin of Trouble" Tessa goes on a journey through all of her family members to explain her father's absence.
In Eva's film "Sinterklaas Bestaat" she follows Marcel, a taxi driver who really looks forward to these gloomy months. This is the time that he can transform himself into the best friend of every Dutch child: Sinterklaas. In Den Helder he spreads joy and presents, but he feels it's getting harder every year to complete his magical illusion.

After the program a short Q&A will take place with the artists lead by our très magnifique moderator Cecile Boesch!
Stay for some drinks, inspiration and connections after our program. See you the 30th!

Date: 26 October 2017

Time: 20:30 - 22:00

Location: Cinetol, Tolstraat 182, Amsterdam

Description:

Dear documentary lovers,

Another month, another Docupodium edition! And boy, what an edition we have... Amazing talents will be showing their new gems for the first time on this stage and we could say - quite biased - that it might be the best edition EVER. So don't hesitate, mark your calenders and come see new films by Ava Moira Meijer and Emma Boelhouwer.

In '2Gether' the focus lies on adolescent friendships. Director Ava Moira Meijer portrays two teenage girls and their close relationship, making a filmic connection to the adolescent friendship she had herself with her best friend when she was 13.
In Ongekend Succes we welcome back one of our favourite Docupodium directors, Emma Boelhouwer. Growing up in Amsterdam, Emma always dreamed of becoming succesful. Now that she's almost thirty, she's wondering if success was ever in the cards for her. And why does it seem to come so easily to her former classmates?

After the program a short Q&A will take place with the artists lead by our très magnifique moderator Cecile Boesch.

Stay for some drinks, inspiration and connections after our program. See you the 26th!

Next Edition: Docupodium: #27

Date: 28 September 2017

Time: 20:30 - 22:00

Location: Cinetol, Tolstraat 182, Amsterdam

Description:

Dear documentary lovers,

A new glorious season of Docupodium has started again! As the weather disappoints us all, we have some warming films for you in store that will ease your summer suffering. So mark your calendars, call in sick and claim that last Thursday of the month timeslot, because this year we are going to give you a portion of upcoming masterpieces you have never seen before!

And it all starts this month with 'Zijn is zichzelf kiezen' by Anne-lotte Mosand 'When Time Loses Patience' by Andreea Dumitriu. The first film is the director's much more positive view on Sartre's famous statement that man is 'condemned to be free'. Different charactes with different stories show us that making choices is a big part of everyone's life.
Our second film explores the illegal markets of Romania, or actually what is left of them now that the country is part of the European Union and the farming regulations are a lot more strict. The director shows the desolate beauty of the markets in a 4:3 portrait where all the different farmers deal with the same situation.

After the program a short Q&A will take place with the artists lead by journalist (and our fabulous house-moderator) Laura Kemp!

Stay for some drinks, inspiration and connections after our program. See you the 28th!

Next Edition: Docupodium: #25

Date: 31 May 2017

Time: 20:30 - 22:00

Location: Cinetol, Tolstraat 182, Amsterdam

Description:

Dear documentary lovers,

After a short break to celebrate our love for orange, we are back with a great new edition! This time we shake things up by inviting you not on the last Thursday, but last Wednesday of the month to enjoy N For Neutral bySterre de Jong and Unity: Dress-scapes of Accra by Mara Lin Visser.

Director Sterre de Jong is searching for possibilities of a gender-neutral society in her film N For Neutral. With Sweden as comparison, she addresses the question if we are fighting against our nature and common beliefs, or are actually heading to equal rights.
In 'Unity: Dress-scapes of Accra' director Mara Lin Visser shows the world of African fashion in the capital of Ghana. African prints seem to be making a comeback in the fashion system of Accra. Material culture seems to deal more and more with cultural expression, tradition and social constructs.

After the films a short Q&A will take place with the directors of the films and our sassy and fresh moderator Marlon Claus!

Stay for some drinks, inspiration and connections after our program. See you the 31st!

Location: Cinetol, Tolstraat 182, Amsterdam

Description:

Dear documentary lovers,

The time has come to enjoy a new edition of one of your favourite documentary evenings of all time! - We hope, it's our favourite anyways. This last Thursday of the month we will be screening Tabee by Jotte den Dulk and 'Na de Zomer' by Ingrid Kamerling.

Director Jotte Den Dulk portrays the goodbye between an owner and his company in her film 'Tabee'. How do you deal with the nagging feeling in your heart, when your mind tells you that you've made the right choice? Our main character, Jacques, seems to be torn.
In 'Na de Zomer' director Ingrid Kamerling deals with a different type of new beginning. The film shows a group of Dutch Reformed youngsters, who just finished high school in their closed community and are about to enter the great big world. Is everything going to be as different as they think? Or will they be able to hold on to the values they've been brought up with all their lives?

For director Aisha Roberson the subject of her film was just around the corner when she portrayed her 22-year old brother and his quest for love. Jennis, as is the main characters' name, is born with the Williams-Beuren syndrome which makes finding romance a bit different than most people experience.
'De Hoeder' by Joost van de Wiel shows Nico, a 91-year old GP with an undying love for his profession. In a world filled with more and more rules and annoying bureaucracy, Nico tries to practise his beloved expertise with the same passion as always. But will he be able to cope with all the changes?

Dear documentary lovers,

We have yet another nice edition in store for you! This time we are dreaming away with 'Droomvergunning' by Caroline Keman and Paula Vonhof, and getting sucked in the world of finance with 'De Alchemisten' by Jona Honer.

Director Jona Honer follows two brothers who believe to have found a golden investment formula. By letting the computer act automatically, they don't have to deal with their own emotions in the stock market, and plan to make money out of other people's emotional investments. But how solid is their plan?
In 'Droomvergunning' we dive in the part imaginary world of the nine-year old Fayaz. Together with his mother, Fayaz fleed Afghanistan six years ago and is living in an asylum centre in Almere now. He could be deported any day, but that doesn't take away his courage to dream about his future.

After the films a short Q&A will take place with the directors of the films and our fabulous moderator Laura Kemp!

Dear documentary lovers!

Is summer not what you expected it to be? No worries, we have a new edition of Docupodium in store for you on Thursday the 30th of June. So no need to pout, while the sun is not coming out tomorrow (as a famous redhead used to promise us), we have inspiring films by young makers in a cosy and especially dry place!

This evening you can enjoy 'Een Kleine Verandering' by Koen Derksen, and 'Koffie & Cake' by Janetta Ubbels.
The first film explores an alternative way of living, showing several people who chose to live in small and often movable houses. Why is it that important for us to constantly think and live bigger?
In 'Koffie & Cake' Christel, a young, blonde woman is followed in her life as a funeral director. Although this might seem as a grim world with a lot of tradition and routine, 'Koffie & Cake' shows us that even the funeral world is subject to change.

After the films a short Q&A will take place lead by our moderator Laura Kemp!
